Disney Barn Movie Night
Disney Barn at L.A. Live Streamers in Griffith Park
Buster Keaton's "The General" plus selected clips.

Walt Disney's "The Great Locomotive Chase" (1956) was a great film, but it was a remake of an even greater one: Buster Keaton's "The General" (1926). Keaton's film rightfully deserves a place as one of Trains Magazine's top ten railroad movies (Jan 2010 special issue) but it's also on many top ten lists of all-time best comedies, period. Our Special guest will be actor James Karen, who also happens to be a Keaton historian and was one of Buster's best friends. We'll hear the inside story about Buster's backyard railroad. (Yes, Walt and the Disney animators weren't the only ones!) Buster's railroad, of course, had a comic twist. We will also show film clips from several of Buster's other great train movies. Don't miss it and be prepared to LAUGH!

Popcorn and soft drinks will be available. (The barn itself will be closed due to the position of the movie screen.)

Gates open at 7:30pm
Program starts at 8:30pm
Film begins as darkness permits

Limited bench seating is available. Bring a cushion or a blanket for added comfort. Chairs and a flashlight optional.

This event is open to Carolwood and LALSRM members and their guests (sorry, no general public).

This monrth's special guest: Virginia Davis - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0205629/

In the summer of 1923, 22-year-old Walt Disney, saw Virginia in an advertisement in a Kansas City theater and immediately decided to hire her. Alice's Wonderland (1923) was the first short film of the Alice series, and was filmed at the Davis home in Kansas City. After filming, Disney returned to Hollywood and began to build his movie empire with only forty dollars and one short film starring little Virginia Davis. The Davis family soon followed Disney to Hollywood, although their daughter's career was not the only reason for the move; Virginia had suffered a pneumonia and other health problems, and her doctor told her parents that she would be healthier in a drier, warmer climate.
